Best known for his work in horror films, Ken Foree has always worked roles that challenge him. As if working alongside Academy Award Winner Reese Witherspoon and Christopher Waltz as well as Twilight star Rob Pattinson, wasn’t a challenge in and of itself, Ken creates Earl a lovable, but hardened man who you can’t help but like.

As ideas for derivative horror films go, “The Crazies” isn’t a bad one, assuming the director approaches it with some craft and avoids cheap jump scares or heavy handed style. Luckily “The Crazies” has that in Breck Eisner (“Sahara”) who has enough of an understanding of the weakenesses inherent in this sort of thing to get around it.

After a local man wanders around town with a shotgun, Sheriff Dutton (Timothy Olyphant) starts looking for a reason why and it looks like he’s found it when he discovers the wreckage of a plane in the local swamp. The local swamp that feeds into the town’s water supply.

It’s pretty efficient as set ups go; it creates a believably motiveless villain so that the film can jump right to the mayhem. But it also allows a constant undercurrent of tension as survivors must worry if they have been infected or are just responding to the stress of their situation.”

How’s this for a birth name— Kentotis Alvin Foree. Good stuff? I thought so. We all know and love Ken Foree as the strong willed, survivalist Peter Washington in Romero’s Dawn of the Dead. Once again as we saw with Night of the Living Dead, the race of our main character has absolutely nothing to do with film in the slightest. It is never brought up, and that in fact may be the true beauty of Romero’s take on the zombie genre. Zombies are us, and no one is safe from becoming one. There can be no discrimination when zombies are involved and that’s a fact jack. For me, Peter Washington’s recalling of what his grandfather told him will always stay in my head as one of the greatest lines ever uttered, “When there’s no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth”, a line that would be uttered once more by Foree in his cameo for the 2004 remake. Sure others may love Foree for his role as Charlie Altamont in Rob Zombie’s The Devil’s Rejects or maybe even as Big Joe Grizzly in the mostly atrocious Halloween remake- but me? I’ll always think of him fondly as the wonderful and ass kicking Peter Washington. Read the article HERE!

“The political suspense thriller genre had a fine resurrection last year, even though underrated films like “The International” and “Law Abiding Citizen” were mostly overshadowed by the abundance of high profile science fiction movies. It’s refreshing to see the ’70s tradition of exploring political and corporate conspiracies has been maintained in a movie that camouflages itself as a straightforward revenge thriller.

Based on the BBC mini-series of the same name, “Edge of Darkness” is very much the type of movie you don’t want to know too much about in terms of plot, in order to allow the surprise twists to play themselves out as you watch. Even so, you might already know the general plot involves Mel Gibson as a police detective trying to avenge the death of his daughter Emma, and even knowing this might not prepare you for the brutal way she’s murdered in the first ten minutes of the movie. Thinking the killer was aiming for him, Craven’s guilt and grief drive him to investigate the case himself, despite it obviously being a huge conflict of interest.”

“Add a new threat to the biblical plague checklist: Legion. In the beginning, this film’s script was about a diner full of folks who come under siege by demons. Over time, said script would experience a divine metamorphosis. Gone were the demons, angels were introduced and a plot involving God’s wrath was worked in to explain why heaven’s soldiers were flooding the earth with such fury. A unique spin on the siege scenario (even if it does sound like a reverse Demon Knight) genre fans have seen time and time again since Romero trapped a bunch of folks in a farmhouse and assaulted them with the living dead, but in the hands of Scott Stewart Legion clunky, laughable and clichéd mess.”

Maybe I can get a handle on this movie if I break it down into its parts. Let’s begin with the plot. In 1953, a young starlet named Scarlett May was murdered. In 2006, it seems her killer is back, terrorizing the cast and crew of Pirate Wenches, an awful low-budget film from the unctuous Connor Pritchett (Lance Henriksen), owner of a floundering studio. Fanboy Adam Waltz (Edward Furlong) has won a walk-on in the film, which stars B-movie queen Cassie Blue (Tiffany Shepis). Who could the killer be? Could it be the creepy paparazzo that seems to be at each crime scene? Maybe it’s the film’s director, who seems to resent Pritchett’s meddling? Is it a coincidence that as cast members begin to die, Adam’s role gets bigger and Connor Pritchett’s movie gets more publicity? Yes, red herrings abound as this confused feature stumbles to a close. Unfortunately, you’ll have to sit through the whole 108 minutes to find out the murderer’s identity.

What is there to say that a simple Google search won’t provide – quite a bit. Ken Foree has been one of the most recognizable faces in the horror genre since his starring role in George Romero’s Dawn of the Dead. “When there’s no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth,” is probably one of his most quoted lines with fans begging him to say it at numerous appearances around the globe. His popularity is such that in the film Shaun of the Dead (2004), the writers paid homage to him by having Shaun work at Foree Electronics.
